Preston Lacemakers are a friendly group of people who meet to share their enthusiasm and enjoyment in the art and craft of lace, in all its variations. Our group includes young and old and beginners to experienced. Throughout the year we have talks about and workshops in both lace and other craft techniques. We also promote lace through exhibitions and giving demonstrations.

Next Meeting: Make lace and chat - Saturday, 3 August 2019

Many thanks to Jacqui Hyman of Textile Restoration Studio for an fascinating, enjoyable and informative talk, titled 'Sticky tape, moths and men', about the conservation and restoration of textiles.  Members also took the opportunity to purchase a number of items and products to assist in the care and conservation of textile items.

Our next meeting takes place on Saturday, 3 August 2019.  This meeting is an opportunity to make lace, chat, share ideas, look at the work of other members and make purchases from our sales table.  If you are interested in learning more about lacemaking, this would be a good meeting to attend.  You can come along as a visitor for £3.00, including hot drinks and biscuits.

Next Meeting: 6 July 2019 Jacqui Hyman of Textile Restoration Studio

It was great to see so many members at our last meeting when we all had the opportunity to make progress on our lace projects, view the beautiful items completed by others and catch up on everyone's news.

Our next meeting takes place on Saturday, 6 July when Jacqui Hyman of Textile Restoration Studio will give a talk titled 'Sticky Tape, Moths and Men'.  The talk will start at 11:00 and Jacqui has invited members to bring along any textiles for which they would like advice on conservation.  Members will also have the opportunity to purchase conservation items from Jacqui.

Next Meeting: 1 June 2019 Make lace and chat

Many thanks to members for their positive approach, at our recent EGM, to dealing with a sudden and significant increase in costs.  Please note that meetings will now be held until 15:00 instead of 16:00 and that we shall have no meeting in January in the future.

Our next meeting will take place on Saturday, 1 June from 10:00 to 15:00 when we shall be making lace and chatting.  There will be a table available upon which members can display their lace and the sales table.  If you want to visit, we make a small charge of £3.00, which includes hot drinks and biscuits.  You can pop in at any time during the day for as long as you would like.  We have a spare pillow available if anyone would like to try bobbin lace.

Next Meeting: EGM 4 May 2019

Many thanks to Helen Wilkins for giving an enjoyable and informative workshop on Needle Tatting at our meeting in April.

All members should have received information about the Extra-ordinary General Meeting, which is taking place on Saturday, 4 May 2019 at 11:00.  If not, please contact the secretary for the agenda and additional information.  Once the EGM has ended, we shall all be making lace and having a chat, so anyone interested in coming for the first time or just to visit us would be better waiting until about 12 noon before arriving.

Next Meeting: Saturday 2 March 2019 AGM

Thank you to all those who attended our enjoyable meeting in February.  Our next meeting takes place on Saturday 2 March 2019.  The first part, starting at 11:00, will be the AGM.  Members should have received their Agenda and minutes of the last AGM and open meeting by email or personal delivery by another member.  If any members have not had a copy, please contact the secretary.

We shall not be holding a Jacob's Join this year, so remember to bring your own lunch, after which we shall make lace and chat.

If you are interested in coming to a meeting of Preston Lacemakers to see what we do, I would suggest that you come after lunch to chat with other members and see their work.

Next Meeting: Saturday 5 January 2019 Needlelace Workshop

There was lots of paper and glue and not much lace at our December meeting!  A friend of the Chairman came along to provide a workshop on Kusudama flower making. There was a real buzz as everyone folded and glued!  The results were delightful, as you can see in the Preston Lacemakers Photographs accessed via the links section on this page. We also enjoyed a surprise raffle, the traditional Secret Santa and a non alcoholic punch accompanied by savoury and sweet nibbles. A very good start to the festive season!

At our next meeting, Carol Fenlon will be giving a Needlelace workshop.  A pack will be provided at a cost of £3 to make an Easter Card and participants will need to bring a basic sewing kit including small scissors, sharp needles and tacking cotton.  Whilst only members can participate in the workshop, there will be other members making lace and chatting, so if you would like to visit us you are very welcome.

Next Meeting: Christmas Meeting Saturday 1 December 2018

It was lovely to chat with so many members at the last meeting and to see all the splendid projects members are doing.

Our next meeting is the Christmas meeting on 1 December 2018.  As members are aware, the format of the meeting will change this year.  In accordance with the results of the questionnaire, it was agreed that there will not be a Jacob’s Join this year, so it is important that you bring your own lunch.  Hot drinks will be available as usual and there will be non-alcoholic cold drinks available.  The committee will also provide some nibbles.  If you want to participate in the Secret Santa, remember to bring a wrapped gift to the value of £5.  It has also been agreed that we shall hold a raffle with a difference.  It would, therefore, be lovely if some members could bring wrapped raffle prizes for the occasion.  It will make choosing your raffle prize more interesting! We shall also have a workshop on Kusudama flower making, which involves making flowers from paper.  The workshop is free to members, but we need to know how many would like to participate so that Anne-Marie can bring sufficient materials.  I know that some members have signed the list.  If you have not added your name to the list but would like to join in, please let the secretary know as soon as possible.  You will need to bring paper-cutting scissors and a ruler.  It would be helpful to bring a Pritt stick if you have one.  If you have some craft paper you would like to use, bring that along with you too.  Should be fun!
