Dorothy Swinson, the first chair person of Preston Lacemakers, taught three lace classes in the Preston area: Alston Hall; Glovers Court and Our Lady & St. Edwards.
In November 1985 a lace day was organised by Dorothy with help from pupils who attended these classes. From this a decision was made to form a lace group. Dorothy is shown in the picture below.

Preston Lacemakers are noted for their warmth and friendliness which is evident at their Christmas Party, their anniversary celebrations and in their donations to local charities raised through their monthly meetings. These friendly meetings often have a workshop where participants can try their hand at learning different lace and other craft techniques. Throughout the years Preston Lacemakers have also held Lace Days mounted exhibitions and demonstrations and have been entertained by speakers on a wide range of subjects.
Important milestones such as the Preston Guilds in 1992 and 2012 and the millennium have also been marked by PLM.
Preston Lacemakers values its history but also wants to promote and develop Lacemaking as a vibrant craft for today. We welcome new members/ lacemakers. Why not pay us a visit at one of our monthly meetings.
